PEACH is hosting a workshop, “When Socialization IS an Issue” by Melinda Boring for our March 14th meeting. She shares her personal and professional experiences with humor and compassion. Her workshops offer practical suggestions and fresh perspectives that can help newbies as well as  experienced homeschoolers.

This particular seminar, “When Socialization IS an Issue” will assist parents with these questions about their child’s behavior:

  • Does your child have difficulty when trying to join an activity?
  • Does your child fail to make eye contact, or respond inconsistently to others’ attempts at interaction?
  • Do they tend to monopolize conversations?
  • Does your child have a limited number of subjects he/she prefers to discuss?

Parents of children with special needs such as Learning Disabilities, Autism, or Attention Deficit Disorder will find the information presented in this workshop particularly helpful. Special needs children often require extra practice and specific instructions to develop important social skills, and  Melinda will help parents learn how to identify specific aspects of social skills and ways to gently teach them through daily activities and games.

Melinda has been a regular columnist for the Ohio Home School Companion, a bimonthly publication of Christian Home Educators of Ohio. She is the author of  Heads Up Helping!, and is owner and president of  Heads Up! She has a degree in education and a M.A. in speech/language pathology, and brings a wealth of information from over 17 years as a homeschooler and 25 years as a speech/language pathologist.
